On March 18, 2006 in Vienna Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Borys Tarasyuk met with the Special Envoy of the UN secretary general for the talks on the future status of Kosovo and Metohija (Serbia and Montenegro) Martti Oiva Kalevi Ahtisaari.

In the course of the conversation the parties discussed the course of the negotiation process as to determination of status of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija (Serbia and Montenegro), the situation in the Autonomous Province after the elections of the new president and change of leadership of the government and the parliament of the Province as well as its influence on the situation in the region of the Western Balkans.

The Head of the foreign policy office of Ukraine emphasized that the negotiation process should be aimed at search of mutually acceptable compromise resolution.

Mr Tarasyuk confirmed that our country supports such resolution on the status of Kosovo and Metohija which would contribute to strengthening stability and security in the Region and in Europe as a whole.
